The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Powering Information Communication Technology (ICT) activity through its implementing partner, Tetra Tech Inc, signed an agreement with Tecnologia da Informação e Comunicação (TIC) Timor I.P., an organization under the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Timor-Leste’s ICT network. Under the agreement, USAID Powering ICT will collect and analyze data provided by TIC to assess Timor-Leste’s electrical grid and telecommunications needs.

USAID recently announced a follow-on project with Timorese implementing partner Haburas Ita Moris (HIM) to support USAID Local Works to conduct a listening tour in 13 municipalities in Timor-Leste.

A grant from the USAID Tourism For All project has opened the way for more tourists to visit Adara Eco-Resort on the island of Atauro. The remote resort is only accessible on foot or by boat. The grant provided two boat engines and safety equipment for resort owner Mario Gomes, whose income has increased by 65 percent so that more visitors can enjoy easier access to Adara.

Today, the United States—through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)—announced $1 million in new COVID-19 assistance for Timor-Leste to extend the reach of vaccination programs by engaging trusted leaders and civil society organizations to urge hesitant citizens to get vaccinated, especially in communities outside Dili. The total U.S. assistance to help Timor-Leste fight COVID-19 now stands at $5 million.
