Dushanbe, Tajikistan, January 21, 2022 - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) marked the successful completion of its five-year regional Competitiveness, Trade, and Jobs Activity.  The activity facilitated Central Asian exports and increased employment in horticulture, tourism, and transportation and logistics services.  The activity successfully increased competitiveness and expanded trade in these sectors within the region and beyond.

USAID invested $1.97 million in 34 innovation projects co-financed through an Innovation Fund, established to incentivize partners to undertake innovative initiatives in the horticultural, tourism, and transportation and logistics sectors to increase their exports, grow their businesses, and create new jobs.  The Innovation Fund leveraged $5.89 million in private sector investment, which resulted in 23 companies creating 634 new jobs and 13 firms exporting products to 37 new markets.

The U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced its new five-year $36 million food security activity – Feed the Future Tajikistan Agriculture and Land Governance – to reduce hunger, undernutrition, and poverty in Tajikistan.

USAID Launches $12 Million Program to Increase Access to Safe Drinking Water in Tajikistan

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a new five-year, $12 million, USAID’s Rural Water Supply activity to provide more equitable access to safe drinking water in unserved and underserved communities in Tajikistan. Through this activity, at least 30,000 people in rural and suburban communities will gain access to safe water.

PEPFAR and USAID Launch New Program in Tajikistan to Combat HIV/AIDS

The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) have awarded a new five-year project to combat HIV/AIDS in Tajikistan under the title,  “Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control.” The project will be implemented by the non-commercial organization Family Health International 360, in partnership with Right to Care, Palladium, Population Services International, and Gobee Group. “Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control” is a global initiative that will provide strategic technical assistance and deliver health services directly to achieve HIV epidemic control and improve HIV case finding, prevention, treatment programming, and viral load suppression.

USAID Announces a New Activity on Tuberculosis Prevention and Care in Prisons in Tajikistan

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new five-year, $1 million, activity on Tuberculosis (TB) Prevention and Care in Prisons that will be implemented by the Republican Public Organization, Afif. In cooperation with the Main Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan and the National Tuberculosis Program of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, the activity will provide state-of-the-art TB treatment and care to prisoners and recently released prisoners. 

USAID Improves HIV Prevention and Treatment in Tajikistan

Today, U.S. Ambassador John Mark Pommersheim participated in an online conference to celebrate the accomplishments of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) HIV Central Asia Flagship program over the last five years and introduce USAID’s new HIV activity, which aims to help 95 percent of people living with HIV know their status and get 95 percent of those people onto HIV treatment.  These USAID activities support the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and UNAIDS goals.

The U.S. Government and IOM Support more than 600 Stranded Tajik Migrants Return Home from Kazakhstan

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) assisted more than 600 Tajik migrants stranded at the Kazakh-Uzbek border to safely return home. The returning labor migrants, including women and children, and students made the 180-km journey from the Zhibek Zholi border point in Kazakhstan, through Uzbekistan to Tajikistan. This assistance was closely coordinated with the governments of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

USAID and The Aga Khan Foundation provide $2.6 million in Assistance to Combat to COVID-19

The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) are initiating a combined $2.6 million response to COVID-19 in Tajikistan over the next twelve months.  USAID and AKF will work to improve care for patients, especially for the severely and critically ill, create employment opportunities, provide food support for the most vulnerable, and educate communities about COVID-19 to help reduce the spread of the virus. This brings the total direct U.S. government contribution to support Tajikistan’s efforts to combat COVID-19 to more than $5 million.
