On behalf of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), I am wishing L’Shana Tova to our Jewish friends in communities here and around the world as they celebrate the high holy days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
These Days of Awe come during what has been a difficult year for many USAID employees, our partners, and the people we serve. Many have lost loved ones or been separated from friends and family. Yet, the tradition that grounds our Jewish friends during these sacred days reminds us that we must come together with humility to achieve peace and reconciliation. Let us each be reminded that to make the world a kinder and more peaceful place, we must show compassion and ask ourselves how we can do better by one another in the year ahead.
During this time of renewal, may we all reflect on the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam - a call to do what we can to repair the world. As a new year begins, take care of yourself and one another, and start this new chapter with a renewed focus on our efforts to uphold human dignity and help those most in need. I am grateful to stand alongside all of you at USAID and wish all those who observe the high holy days a joyous new year.
