Southern Africa Regional
Country Overview
While Southern Africa has seen significant economic growth, the number of people living in poverty has grown over the last two decades. This region has some of the highest levels of income inequality in the world.
USAID works to advance the region toward becoming more integrated, prosperous, and ultimately self-reliant. This goal can only be achieved when the needs of both women and men in the region are addressed. Our programs increase trade and strengthen regional economic ties, address the HIV/AIDS crisis, and COVID-19 pandemic, while supporting democratic processes, protecting human rights, and building resilience.
USAID is strategically allocating its resources and partnering with three main stakeholders: the private sector, governments, and citizens to catalyze inclusive economic growth, strengthen governance, and advance the resilience of people and systems.
