The first 24-hour clinic in the Greater Ivory Park area was inaugurated on February20 this year. The clinic  will adequately service healthcare needs and provide access to healthcare interventions for thousands of Ivory Park residents. Gauteng Department of Health MEC Dr. Bandile Masuku remarked “It is our belief and hope that the running of this clinic will, in a number of ways uplift the quality of life for the people in this area, and that it will improve the quality of access to care for this and surrounding communities.”

Expansion of U.S. food assistance to drought-affected Namibians

U.S. Ambassador Lisa Johnson and Namibian Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila joined the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in the country’s Oshana Region on 17 February 2020 to deliver more than 85 tons of maize meal, beans, and vegetable oil to more than 12,000 vulnerable Namibians that are affected by the drought.

September 9, 2019 was a historic moment for seed trade in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Two trucks carrying 60 metric tons of a hybrid maize seed produced following the SADC Harmonized Seed Regulatory System (HSRS) successfully crossed the Zambia-DRC borders. This may not sound like a lot, but it was the very first export of a non-genetically modified organism (GMO) hybrid maize seed easily produced in Zambia, but not in the mineral-rich the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

In comparison to women, men are less likely to access health care, especially men living with HIV. Studies conducted at two high volume facilities in eThekwini District, KwaZulu-Natal Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital Gateway Clinic and KwaMashu Poly clinic highlighted reasons for delayed health seeking-behavior. Men tend to minimize the severity of the symptoms, stigma associated with HIV, long waiting time at facilities, judgemental staff, and lack of privacy.

Meet Zodwa Mabiyela, a young lady from Tembisa, a township east of Johannesburg, who is full of love and positivity for her community.   Life did not start easy for Zodwa, though. After losing her mother at a young age, she was brought up by her alcoholic and abusive father.
