Press Release

May 31, 2022, Turkestan, Kazakhstan – Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), partnered with the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken, the Center for the Development of Women’s Entrepreneurship, and microfinance organization Arnur Credit to host a series of trainings on the “Creation of Women Cooperatives”. Through the creation of cooperatives, more women entrepreneurs can integrate into local supply chains across Central Asia.

“Cooperatives can play an essential role in women’s empowerment by increasing access to resources and economic opportunities. By working together, small, women-owned businesses can overcome the barriers faced by small firms, leveraging their collective strengths to compete in the global economy”, stated Robert Parker, USAID/Central Asia’s Regional Trade Officer, addressing the participants of the training.

During the training, clients of the Center for the Development of Women’s Entrepreneurship, borrowers of the microfinance organization Arnur Credit, and women entrepreneurs learned how to generate business ideas for establishing cooperatives and validate them through brainstorming, business planning, and registration with state authorities. The training aims to support a minimum of one or two new women cooperatives with business connections and integrate them into local supply chains.

This training is a part of a series that began on May 17, 2022, with 69 participants across Central Asia to discuss the goal of women’s cooperatives, how they are formed, and how best to address the challenges and risks associated with the cooperative movement in the region.
