Launched alongside the Power Africa Roadmap, the Power Africa Tracking Tool (PATT) is a powerful new platform that allows for easy, real-time tracking of power transactions across the continent. And it fits in your pocket.

The Power Africa Tracking Tool (PATT) is a mobile app and web portal that provides easily accessible information on 45,000 megawatts (MW) in power transactions from stakeholders on the ground all across sub-Saharan Africa. Much of the data in PATT is being made publicly available for the first time, a move that will increase transparency and better inform financing opportunities and foster more deal closures between private sector.

Users can view transaction status by project in each country; dive into national-level statistics on generation capacity, energy mix, and available technology; see active projects underway through Power Africa partners; and read the latest news and information from the African energy sector. PATT also keeps tabs on the environmental, social, and other impacts of energy projects in the system.

Power Africa partners got a first look at PATT in greater detail at EnergyNet’s Powering Africa Summit in Washington, D.C., held January 27-29. The Summit convenes energy sector leaders from around the world to identify new opportunities for partnership on projects across Africa.

The PATT app for iPhone is available for download from the Apple App Store. An Android app release is planned for February 2016.
