The BESST project increases the quality of primary and secondary education in 11 provinces through providing continuing education of teachers to improve teacher’s subject knowledge, teaching methods, testing practices, and other skills contributing to quality education. Technical support to the Ministry of Education (MoE) is building capacity in the Ministry to carry out in-service teacher training across the country. BESST implements a district-based, teacher training system delivered by Afghan organizations and provides in-school support to teachers, school managers, and communities. BESST strengthens the MoE’s Human Resources Department’s operations by instituting written, standardized policies and training staff in their administration. The project also implements a stabilization grants component to help schools remain open and thereby expand the reach and legitimacy of the MoE in high-conflict areas. Key activities supported through BESST will be continued through on-budget support to the MoE. [[nid:51916]]
