Acting Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator/Acting Agency Chief Human Capital Officer

Cheryl L. Anderson is the Acting Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator and the Acting Agency Chief Human Capital Officer in the Office of Human Capital and Talent Management. 

A Senior Foreign Service Officer with the rank of Career Minister, Ms. Anderson served from 2020 to 2022 as the USAID Senior Development Advisor to the Foreign Service Institute, where her duties included directing the training for new USAID mission directors and deputy mission directors. During this time, she twice served as the Acting Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator to cover long-term leadership gaps in the Bureau of Policy, Planning, and Learning. 

From 2017 to 2020, Ms. Anderson was the Acting Assistant Administrator and Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Africa. Prior to that, she served as USAID Mission Director in three different posts: Southern Africa, Ghana, and East Africa. Her other overseas assignments with USAID were in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire), East and Southern Africa Regional, Uganda, and Sudan. 

Ms. Anderson served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Economics from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York; and she holds a Master of Science in International Development Management from American University in Washington, D.C.
