The USAID Economic Development, Governance and Enterprise Growth (EDGE) project, is helping small businesses like Soko Gorica to grow, promoting capacity building and sustainability through training and technical assistance. Through this work EDGE is addressing key foreign policy priorities in the region by enhancing economic integration with the EU and the West.

Since North Macedonia’s independence in 1991, the United States has supported the country’s goal to:

Become a prosperous, stable, and inclusive democracy whose future is firmly embedded in Euro-Atlantic institutions

Under the 2020-2025 North Macedonia Country Development Cooperation Strategy, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is fully committed to continue supporting the country to achieve this goal as our newest NATO ally.

A HELPING HAND FOR THE DISADVANTAGED DURING THE PANDEMIC

Elvira Spasoli is a 44-year-old Roma woman, a wife, and a mother of four children. She and her family live in Shuto Orizari, a low-income neighborhood in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. It is the world’s only Roma-majority municipality with Roma accounting for over 60 percent of the population.

Amphenol, one of the largest manufacturers of electronic and fiber optic connectors in the world -- headquartered in Wallingford, Connecticut, was looking for talent in its production plant located in Kochani, North Macedonia.  Amphenol chose North Macedonia as a base for reaching the European market.  North Macedonia’s favorable legislative framework for foreign direct investment was a key attraction – a result of a decade-long effort to promote an enterprise-driven economy.
