USAID Assistant Administrator Lindborg Describes a Food Voucher Program for Syrian Refugees

On January 27, 2013, U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford, Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne C. Richard, and USAID Assistant Administrator for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance Nancy Lindborg met with Jordanian partners and assistance providers to discuss the needs of Syrian refugees and ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts.

Assistant Administrator Lindborg: We visited this morning with Syrian families including women who have come across the border into Jordan. They've been here. They've used up their savings so USAID is so pleased to support this World Food Programme that is providing vouchers. They get groceries for their families at the supermarket. Supermarket has had a six percent increase in its business. It's life saving for their families and it's good for the Jordanian economy.
