USAID, through the Peru Cacao Alliance 
is supporting 24,000 families 
to improve the quality and increase the productivity of their cacao crops, 
to enter new and better markets, allowing them to obtain fairer prices, 
increase their income and improve their quality of life

PROMOTING PERUVIAN CACAO AND CHOCOLATE Peru Cacao Alliance is a public-private initiative supported by USAID, And it is made up of more than thirty organizations, that seek to make the Peruvian cacao and chocolate value chain more competitive. In the regions of San Martín, Huánuco, Ucayali and Pasco, in places where they used to cultivate illicit coca leaves. We increase production with environmental sustainability, to contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change, we promote sustainable agriculture, with a focus of greater productivity in less space, to reduce pressure on forests. We facilitate women economic empowerment, we seek for women entrepreneurs to access market opportunities, We provide learning spaces to improve capacities in production, business, financial education and soft skills. We promote agricultural technology, promoting good practices in fertilization, pruning, soil management, integrated pest management and technified crop irrigation. We improve the quality of harvest and post-harvest processes, to reach more demanding markets. We promote access to differentiated markets, improving quality and volume, we facilitate commercial articulation, between producers and buyers from exclusive markets who pay better prices. USAID THROUGH THE PERU CACAO ALLIANCE IS SUPPORTING 24 THOUSAND FAMILIES TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY AND INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY OF THEIR CACAO CROPS, TO ENTER NEW AND BETTER MARKETS, ALLOWING THEM TO GET FAIRER PRICES, INCREASE THEIR INCOME AND THUS IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE USAID and the Peru Cacao Alliance work to reduce the inequality and poverty gaps that exist in the countryside, raising the productivity and income of small farmers. It is an inspiring and successful experience. It demonstrates that working together, the public and private sectors, can make agriculture more competitive, and move towards a more secure and prosperous future for all.
