2018 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair winner - Alecia Brits
In May 2018, 18-year-old Alecia Brits, a 12th grade student at Diamantveld High School in Kimberley, Northern Cape, won a special award from USAID during the annual Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which might be likened to the Olympics for science and engineering students worldwide. USAID attends as a Special Award Organization to recognize innovative projects that could advance development.
