Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena to discuss shared priorities in Central America and the Comprehensive Development Plan for El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and southern Mexico. 

During the meeting, Administrator Power underscored USAID’s commitment to supporting the people of Central America and Mexico. Administrator Power outlined ongoing efforts to address longstanding drivers of irregular migration and the centrality of accountable democratic governance to attracting investment and achieving sustainable development in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The Administrator also emphasized USAID’s strong partnership with Mexico and the Mexican development agency, AMEXCID, and encouraged ECLAC to deepen cooperation with the United States on donor and private sector engagement in the region.
