Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirojidin Muhriddin to discuss USAID’s work in Tajikistan and support for the country’s people and economy. Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Muhriddin discussed the impacts the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine has had on the Tajik people, and reaffirmed USAID’s commitment to help vulnerable families confronting rising food insecurity. The Administrator shared that USAID will provide an additional $13 million in food security support, including programs to help provide meals for students. 

Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Muhriddin also discussed the importance of combating climate change and advancing clean energy goals. Administrator Power congratulated Tajikistan for opening its largest solar power plant in partnership with USAID, which will provide thousands of people in Tajikistan with clean, renewable energy. The Administrator underscored USAID’s continued commitment in supporting Afghan refugees in Tajikistan and noted U.S. concerns about their safety and rights.
