Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s Prime Minister. Administrator Power and Prime Minister Shmyhal discussed the long standing alliance between Ukraine and the United States and their shared commitment to democracy and the rule of law.

Administrator Power conveyed ongoing USAID support for comprehensive market and judicial reform efforts and encouraged the Government of Ukraine to work to overcome obstacles blocking the implementation of legislation critical for establishing needed transparency in the judiciary and to advance anti-corruption efforts. The Administrator also emphasized USAID’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of continued Russian aggression as well as support for communities in eastern Ukraine. Additionally, they discussed Ukraine’s vision to advance green development and to address climate change, the pathway for integration with the European electricity grid, and ongoing efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
