Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Libya Interim Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush and congratulated her on being Libya’s first female foreign minister. The Administrator and Foreign Minister discussed the importance of the country holding credible, timely, and inclusive parliamentary and presidential elections on December 24, 2021, as well as the Libyan Stabilization Initiative.
Administrator Power expressed support for the December 24 vote and offered continued USAID assistance to ensure credible elections. Administrator Power also noted dwindling humanitarian access in Libya and requested that the Government of Libya improve humanitarian partners’ ability to reach people in need of lifesaving assistance.
The United States is committed to supporting Libya’s stabilization and political transition, and to assisting the Libyan people through and beyond the elections.
