Press Release

Today, Administrator Samantha Power joined Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi at the signing of the fourth Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Strategic Partnership between the United States of America and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The new seven-year MOU, subject to the availability of funds, supports providing $1.45 billion per year in U.S. foreign assistance to Jordan between fiscal year 2023 and fiscal year 2029.

The United States is Jordan’s largest provider of assistance. The newly signed MOU, unprecedented in both funding level and duration, is a testament to the strategic partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The assistance, the majority of which is implemented by USAID, provides a platform to further support Jordan’s needs, advance mutual objectives, and address regional challenges.

The MOU comes at a critical juncture as the government is prioritizing and implementing key reforms to strengthen Jordan’s economy and provide opportunities for all. The United States and the Government of Jordan are dedicated to working together to unlock Jordan’s potential and foster cooperation and investments in shared development priorities, including the sectors of water, economic growth, education, health, and democracy and governance.

The United States remains committed to the indispensable relationship with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and looks forward to mutual cooperation over the next seven years and beyond to ensure the Kingdom’s security and prosperity.
