Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) Executive Director Peter Sands to discuss coordination with the Global Fund to deliver on global targets laid out by President Biden at the Global COVID-19 Summit. Mr. Sands also shared an update of the Global Fund’s implementation efforts on the COVID-19 response. They also discussed the detrimental impact of COVID-19 on the already overwhelming tuberculosis burden around the world and the need to accelerate efforts to scale up tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment.

In addition, the two discussed the new malaria vaccine and their joint efforts in support of the need for sustained work to address the HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria epidemics. The U.S. Government has been and continues to be the largest donor to the Global Fund, providing approximately one third of their funding annually.
