From May 20-27, 2023, Deputy Administrator Paloma Adams-Allen will travel to Senegal and Benin to meet with national and local government officials, women leaders, civil society, private sector partners, and USAID Mission staff. During her visit, Deputy Administrator Adams-Allen will meet with local changemakers, and highlight continued U.S. government partnerships in the region.

While in Senegal, the Deputy Administrator will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to support Senegal in its development efforts, including to strengthen democratic governance. The Deputy Administrator will also meet Senegalese partners, beneficiaries, and women business leaders to discuss their goals for strengthening local organizations, highlighting USAID’s broader efforts to further localize U.S. foreign assistance.

In Benin, she will convene an NGO roundtable to discuss the importance of local leadership in USAID’s work and visit with community health workers engaged in malaria prevention and maternal child health. She will also visit with government counterparts who are implementing a new national strategy to provide comprehensive health services through a network of trained community health workers. During her visit to Senegal and Benin, the Deputy Administrator will also champion key pillars of USAID’s reform agenda including strengthening our global workforce; reducing barriers to entry for local partners; streamlining bureaucratic burdens; engaging the private sector to drive progress beyond programs; and supporting inclusive development.
