On May 12, Administrator Samantha Power met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss USAID’s continued strategic partnership with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and shared development priorities in promoting a stable Middle East. Administrator Power and King Abdullah discussed how USAID can help Jordan address challenges crucial to the Kingdom’s stability, such as deepening food insecurity in the region caused by Putin’s war in Ukraine, structural economic reforms, water provision, and regional tensions.

Administrator Power praised the longstanding partnership between the two nations and thanked King Abdullah for his nation’s support for refugees. She noted that the U.S. Government will continue to work closely with the Kingdom to mitigate the food security impacts to the region from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis caused by the Assad regime for more than a decade against the Syrian people.
