Yesterday, Deputy Administrator Paloma Adams-Allen met with Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan for International Human Rights Issues Gen Nakatani to discuss human rights and democracy, the Indo-Pacific Strategy, the 2nd Summit for Democracy, and Ukraine.

Deputy Administrator Adams-Allen expressed the U.S. government’s solidarity with Japan in condemning Russia’s war on Ukraine. She also highlighted USAID’s key priorities of fighting corruption, addressing forced labor in global supply chains, and advancing democracy and human rights globally, and expressed the Agency’s pleasure that Japan is a participant in the Summit for Democracy Year of Action Focal Group. Finally, Deputy Administrator Adams-Allen provided an update on the 2022 Indo-Pacific Strategy, sharing that the Agency is amplifying our approach to the prevention, protection, and promotion of human rights.
