Press Release

On March 21-22, Administrator Power will travel to South Florida for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Florida International University (FIU) under USAID’s Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Initiative. FIU is the largest Hispanic-serving institution in the United States and the largest minority-serving institution in Florida. The Administrator will also engage with business leaders and journalists based in Miami.

On March 21, Administrator Power will meet with members of the business community at the Council of the Americas to discuss the role of the private sector in spurring development in Latin America and how businesses can engage with USAID to advance development objectives in the countries of the Northern Triangle. She will also meet with journalists who have fled Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to discuss their reporting and USAID’s commitment to supporting and protecting independent media.

On March 22, the Administrator will visit FIU’s Modesto Maidique campus for the MOU signing ceremony. Following the signing, the Administrator will meet with students and faculty, tour the campus and discuss future areas of collaboration between USAID and FIU. Engagements will focus on increasing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in international development fields and building stronger ties with minority-serving institutions. In addition, the Administrator will learn more about FIU and USAID’s disaster risk reduction work in the Latin American and Caribbean region, and highlight USAID’s transformative work to build resilience to climate variability and natural disasters in the region.
