Press Release

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

Today, Administrator Power spoke with Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, about the growing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine caused by the Kremlin’s continued unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.

The Administrator and the Director General discussed various ways the United States can continue to support the Ukrainian Red Cross including methods to improve distribution networks within the country to get critical supplies to those most in need. They also agreed on the urgent need for Russian forces to allow safe passage into and out of besieged cities through humanitarian corridors. The two spoke about the need to get medical assistance and supplies to Ukrainians and ways in which USAID’s Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) could assist in increasing the flow of much needed humanitarian assistance to civilians inside Ukraine.

Administrator Power thanked Director General Dotsenko for the heroic work the Ukrainian Red Cross is doing under incredibly challenging and dangerous circumstances and reiterated the United States commitment to supporting that work.
