Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Anatoliy Fedoruk, the Ukrainian Mayor of Bucha to discuss USAID’s partnership with the government and people of Ukraine to respond to atrocities committed during the Russian Federation’s brutal occupation of Bucha, and efforts to document evidence and to hold those responsible to account.
During the meeting, Administrator Power expressed her deepest condolences for the horrors faced by the people of Bucha, and reaffirmed USAID’s commitment to delivering the humanitarian assistance and long-term support needed for the community’s recovery. The Administrator outlined USAID support to restart Ukraine’s economic recovery through support for small-businesses, energy assistance to Bucha to help the city’s residents get through the winter, and the decades-long effort to help local governments provide quality services to residents. Administrator Power asked the Mayor for recommendations for how USAID and the donor community can further support community-level relief efforts and coordination between Ukraine’s local and national government over the coming weeks and months.
The meeting also included Mykhailyna Skoryk-Shkarivska, Deputy Mayor of Bucha, and Brock Bierman, President and CEO of Ukraine Friends, a U.S.-based non-profit organization delivering humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.
