Today, Administrator Power met with Angeles Moreno Bau, Spain’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Global Issues. Administrator Power and Secretary Moreno discussed shared priorities for the United States and Spain in Central America, the Sahel, and on global efforts to end the COVID-19 pandemic. They expressed a commitment to working together in support of the new Castro Administration in Honduras as it confronts challenges including corruption and irregular migration, and to deepening cooperation on issues such as promoting democratic governance and addressing vaccine delivery issues around the world. Administrator Power and Secretary Moreno discussed their concerns about democratic backsliding in the Americas and the need to work together to bolster the rule of law. They also discussed the United Nations’s humanitarian response plans for Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, which are seeking a combined $588 million in funding to provide humanitarian assistance to over 4.3 million people.
