Today, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with UN Women’s Executive Director Sima Sami Bahous. Deputy Administrator Coleman congratulated Ms. Bahous on her recent appointment as Executive Director, and they recommitted to the shared priority of empowering women and girls globally.

Deputy Administrator Coleman updated Executive Director Bahous on the recent announcement of nearly $54 million in additional humanitarian assistance that USAID and the Department of State are providing to Ukraine following Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified further invasion of Ukraine.

She also expressed USAID’s interest in and support of the Generation Equality Forum. Additionally, they discussed their renewed partnership to tackle the myriad issues facing women and girls ranging from the climate crisis, humanitarian disasters, access to education and employment opportunities, and more. Deputy Administrator Coleman shared USAID’s and the U.S. Government’s commitment to advancing Women, Peace, and Security globally.
