The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

Today, Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with the Chairman of the Syrian Civil Defense (SCD) Raed al-Saleh to reiterate USAID’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people, who continue to endure one of the largest and most complex humanitarian emergencies of our time.

Deputy Administrator Coleman commended the life-saving work of the SCD—also known as the White Helmets—and expressed her sincere condolences for the staff and volunteers who have died in the line of duty, as recently as this past month. Mr. al-Saleh thanked USAID’s consistent support for the White Helmets over the years in being able to respond to the dire needs on the ground in Syria.

The U.S. government remains steadfast in its response to the Syrian conflict, recognizing that the needs on the ground are at their highest levels since the conflict began. Deputy Administrator Coleman emphasized the importance of keeping a spotlight on the Syrian conflict.
