Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to discuss USAID’s partnership with the Government of Iraq, including shared priorities on climate and the return and integration of displaced Iraqis to their homes.

Administrator Power praised Iraq’s plans for institutional reform and investing its own funding to ensure the viability of the energy sector and to move to a green economy. She expressed USAID’s commitment to support Iraq as it continues to address the impacts of climate change.

Administrator Power and Foreign Minister Hussein also talked about the Government of Iraq’s ongoing work to enable Iraqi citizens displaced by conflict to return safely to their homes. Administrator Power commended Foreign Minister Hussein and the Government of Iraq for their efforts in repatriating citizens from al Hol. She shared the United States’ commitment to providing humanitarian support for returnees as Iraq works to ensure the safe repatriation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of all displaced Iraqi citizens.

Administrator Power thanked Foreign Minister Hussein for the strong partnership between USAID and the Government of Iraq and reiterated USAID’s continued support for the Iraqi people.
