Press Release

The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

Today, Administrator Samantha Power and CDC Director Rochelle Walensky met with Senegal President Macky Sall to discuss the U.S. Government’s Initiative for Global Vaccine Access (Global VAX). Announced in December 2021, Global VAX is a whole-of-government effort to turn vaccines in vials into vaccinations in arms around the world.

During their meeting, Administrator Power shared USAID’s ongoing efforts to work with partners to accelerate vaccine delivery and uptake across sub-Saharan Africa and discussed how Global VAX could support the Senegalese government in expanding and accelerating its vaccination efforts.

The Administrator commended President Sall on his commitment to vaccinating all eligible Senegalese. President Sall provided his perspective on Senegal’s COVID-19 vaccination progress and indicated that Senegal is well-positioned to accelerate its COVID-19 vaccination efforts. He also emphasized the importance of investment in vaccine production in Africa, and expressed appreciation for US support to the Institut Pasteur de Dakar.
