Press Release

The below is attributable to Deputy Spokesperson Shejal Pulivarti:‎

From December 12-14, USAID Deputy Administrator Paloma Adams-Allen traveled to Thailand to underscore the United States’ enduring partnership with Thailand and the other bilateral and regional partners that USAID works with through its Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA), based in Bangkok.

The Deputy Administrator had a working lunch with Aloha Spirit awardees: USAID’s locally-employed staff in Bangkok who demonstrate exceptional service and commitment to mission. The awardees shared their experiences at USAID and the impacts of their work. The Deputy Administrator had a series of meetings to engage with staff on how to further USAID’s role in advancing a free and open, connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific region and discussed approaches to regional programming to advance this vision.

On her second day in Bangkok, the Deputy Administrator held additional meetings with locally-employed staff to strengthen USAID’s commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion in our teams, partners, and programs. She then met with U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Robert F. Godec to express USAID’s appreciation for the excellent relationship between USAID/RDMA and the U.S. Department of State within Embassy Bangkok in both operational and programmatic areas.

The Deputy Administrator visited the Asia Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) to discuss USAID’s long standing partnership to strengthen the capacity and leadership of ADPC to help the region adapt to climate impacts. Following this engagement, she attended evening events with the U.S. Embassy Thailand’s Chapter of the Federal Women’s Program to discuss challenges and opportunities for women working in the federal government.

Prior to her departure from Bangkok, the Deputy Administrator met with USAID Mission leadership to further USAID’s vision of localized development and the inextricable link between achieving sustainable humanitarian and development gains, foregrounding local perspectives, and uplifting locally-led development initiatives.
