The below is attributable to Deputy Spokesperson Shejal Pulivarti:

Assistant to the Administrator (AtA) of USAID’s Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning Michele Sumilas led the United States delegation to the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation Summit in Geneva, Switzerland, December 12-14, 2022. She also participated in a side-event to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Multilateral Organization Performance Assessment Network, and met with leadership from the governments of Denmark, Estonia, Norway, and the United Kingdom; and representatives from the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Children’s Fund, and the World Health Organization.

AtA Sumilas highlighted USAID’s leadership on locally led development, as well as the Agency’s collaboration with other development partners to encourage locally-led approaches. The United States and other bilateral donors issued a joint donor statement on supporting locally-led development that includes three clear commitments: shifting and sharing power with local actors, working to channel funding more directly to local partners, and undertaking global advocacy for locally-led development.
