Press Release

Today, the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), signed an amendment to the Development Objective Agreement with the Government of Ecuador. With the amendment, USAID’s investment in development projects in Ecuador has increased by $19.8 million for a total of $36.7 million from 2020 to date.

USAID investments will strengthen democracy and governance, promote economic reactivation, and support conservation and sustainable use of natural resources to combat climate change—all areas of shared interest with the Government of Ecuador. USAID will promote innovative partnerships with the private sector, civil society, and historically marginalized groups such as women, youth, Indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian communities, and people with disabilities, among others, guaranteeing that Ecuadorian voices are represented in development.

The signing of the agreement took place during the visit of the Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for USAID’s Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, Peter Natiello, who reaffirmed the United States’ strong  commitment to partnering with Ecuador to strengthen democracy, expand prosperity, and increase security.
