U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Principal Advisor to the Administrator Mark Feierstein traveled to Miami with Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere Juan Gonzalez on August 19, 2021, to engage with leaders of the Cuban, Haitian, Venezuelan, and Colombian diaspora.

With leaders of the Cuban-American community, Secretary Mayorkas, Feierstein, and Gonzalez discussed the July 11 peaceful protests by the Cuban people, who are calling for greater freedom. The U.S. delegation discussed with Haitian diaspora leaders, USAID’s humanitarian response in the aftermath of the August 14 earthquake in Haiti. Later in the day, Feierstein and Gonzalez met with Colombian and Veneuzelan diaspora leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities in the region.

The United States and USAID stand with the people of Latin America and the Caribbean in support of a brighter future.
