Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Dr. (H.C) H. Suharso Monoarfa, Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning Agency. Administrator Power acknowledged the substantial loss of life due to the COVID-19 pandemic during this difficult time for Indonesia. She underscored USAID’s commitment to partnering with Indonesia, noting that the United States has provided more than $65 million to support the Indonesian response to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. Working together with the Indonesian government and partners, USAID’s COVID-19 support has reached 165 million people in Indonesia since January 2020 -- 60 percent of the country’s population, including approximately 43,000 frontline healthcare workers and support for more than 1,300 hospitals and clinics. The United States has delivered 8 million doses of vaccines to help save lives in Indonesia.

Administrator Power and Minister Monoarfa also discussed the partnership between USAID and the Government of Indonesia on development issues. They highlighted climate change and clean infrastructure investment, continued partnership on initiatives to empower women, and their joint commitment to addressing corruption.

Administrator Power concluded by wishing Minister Monoarfa a Happy New Year.
