Yesterday, Administrator Power met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal to discuss the United States’ ongoing support to Ukraine in the wake of the Russian Federation’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. The Administrator emphasized that the United States remains committed to Ukraine’s long-term development priorities while also working to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the Ukrainian people.

The Administrator and Prime Minister discussed the damage to Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure caused by Putin’s war and the need for a robust recovery. The Prime Minister spoke about measures the Ukrainian government is taking to help internally displaced persons including efforts to help families who have been relocated or lost their homes find shelter and jobs. The two spoke about the impact Putin’s war is having on Ukraine’s ability to export vital goods such as wheat and sunflower oil, which is resulting in a cascading food crisis around the world. Administrator Power reaffirmed USAID’s partnership with Ukraine and its commitment to preserving and building on decades of development accomplishments.
