The below is attributable to Spokesperson Jessica Jennings:

On January 12, USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with Gen Nakatani, Special Advisor for International Human Rights Issues to the Prime Minister of Japan. Deputy Administrator Coleman and Mr. Nakatani discussed human rights, energy needs in Ukraine, engagement on USAID’s Agriculture Resilience Initiative - Ukraine (AGRI-Ukraine) to bolster Ukrainian agriculture exports, and opportunities to address common challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

Deputy Administrator Coleman also expressed appreciation for Japan’s continuing support for Ukraine in the response to Putin’s full-scale invasion of the country, as well as USAID’s support for a successful Japanese G7 Presidency this year. Both parties continue to work toward and look forward to a successful Summit for Democracy in late March.
