The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was introduced in Kazakhstan in 2003 to help address the HIV epidemic. Over the last 18 years, USAID through PEPFAR, has helped almost 16,000 people in Kazakhstan to learn their HIV status.

USAID helped Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology develop and incorporate climate adaptation articles into the new Environment Code. This effort helped put adaptation laws into action, increasing Kazakhstan’s resilience to climate change and demonstrating a successful model that other Central Asian countries could replicate.
