Nigate Asmamaw, 19, in Chilga Town was unable to provide for herself and her daughter due to a disability. The Yekokeb Berhan Program for Highly Vulnerable Children enrolled her in a vocational training program, and now she is making baskets for sale.

Two years ago, Abu almost died from a combination of malaria and meningitis. The family received training, economic strengthening, and parenting education. Now, both children are back in school and their mother works in a small restaurant.

PermaGardening training built the capacity of implementing partners on nutrition security and empowerment so that they train and assist families of highly vulnerable children to produce vegetables in a small garden in a sustainable manner.

Fifteen-year-old Getahun is attending school the first time. Multiple disabilities confined him at home, but now, after receiving crutches and wheelchairs through linkages created by the USAID activity, he is attending special needs education.

Yekokeb Berhan Program for Highly Vulnerable Children: Zenebech's Children
Zenebech Zerihun had given away her eldest daughter to work as a servant and was about to do the same with her two younger children. With training and support from USAID, she has now started to earn a living and has brought her oldest child back home.
