The goal of the Smallholder Alliance for Sorghum in Haiti (SMASH) Program is to improve the incomes of up to 18,000 Haitian subsistence farmers through increased incomes and production of locally grown sorghum in place of imported wheat in the production of BRANA’s product, Malta H, a non-alcoholic nutritional beverage.
Feed the Future Haïti Chanje Lavi Plantè (Improving Farmers’ Lives) builds on previous activities in Haiti’s fertile plains in order to increase productivity and to maximize available resources in the region. The project promotes agricultural intensification, sound natural resource management and a modern, post-harvest marketing system to ensure that products make it to market.

Over the last decade, children, women, and youth have become increasingly vulnerable to human rights abuses, including sexual and gender-based violence, trafficking, sexual exploitation, child labor, domestic violence, and recruitment into crime or violence With over 46 percent of the population under 18 years old, the protection of the rights of children, youth, and women is fundamental to the population's well-being as a whole and to its prospects for economic development.
USAID is now proposing to amend regulations first promulgated in 2004 (implementing E.O. 13279 at 22 CFR part 205) to conform with E.O. 13559. The proposed rule is available at https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2015/08/06/2015-18261/amendment-to-participation-by-religious-organizations-in-usaid-programs-to-implement-executive-order . Other changes required by E.O. 13559 do not require new regulatory text and will be made through changes in guidance, practices, and communications strategies.
The Oceans and Fisheries Partnership between the United States Agency for International Development, the “Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center” and the “Coral Triangle Initiative for Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security” works to strengthen regional cooperation to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, promote sustainable fisheries and conserve marine biodiversity in the Asia-Pacific region.
