Stability in Key Areas – South (SIKA-S) promoted stabilization and good governance in some of Afghanistan’s most historically unstable and weakly-governed provinces.

Led by the Afghan Government’s Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation & Development (MRRD) and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), SIKA-East is designed to promote stability in key areas of eastern Afghanistan.

To strengthen a culture of applied research, USAID launched the U.S.-Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies (USPCAS) in 2015.  USPCAS connects three U.S. universities with expertise in energy, agriculture, and water with four Pakistani universities to modernize curricula, conduct joint research, and foster student and faculty exchanges. 

Through this project USAID is supporting the Government of Pakistan (GOP) in validating environmental feasibility studies for the Diamer Basha Dam which is a large hydroelectric facility.

USAID Improving Educational Quality (IEQ) is a $300 million five-year project (2013-2018) that will support Pakistani-led efforts to focus on improving reading levels of up to 4.5 million primary students through early grade assessments and in-service training for 94,000 teachers

The Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP) improves the economic status of focus populations and sectors by supporting an improved enabling environment for agribusiness sector growth in Punjab. The project accelerates advocacy for policy, regulatory, and institutional reforms through private sector engagement; strengthens institutional capacity to sustain reforms; and mobilizes private sector investments in the horticulture, livestock, and dairy sub­sectors. These three components will be instrumental in leveraging $180 million in private sector investment and creating 15,000 direct and indirect job opportunities over the five­year project life.
