In February 2019, USAID funded Human Resources for Health 2030 (HRH2030) brought together women's groups, the rural hospital matron, community health workers, and traditional birth attendants to improve maternal and newborn health in the village.

In 2017, Dr. Namory Camara’s career took a new trajectory when, after seven years of working in private health clinics, he joined Mali’s civil service and was assigned to the Kadiolo Referral Health Center in the Sikasso region. At 37, he was appointed the reproductive health officer in this public facility, responsible for maternity services and working with midwives who had substantially more experience than he did.

Antenatal care can prevent, detect and manage complications affecting the health of the mother and child throughout a woman’s pregnancy.  Unfortunately, in Mali, this practice was rarely adopted in the intervention areas of the Harande Program.  This is why Harande has made the promotion of maternal, infant and neonatal health one of its priorities.  The combination of social behavior change communication and approaches has gradually led to positive change in target communities, such as the village of Sincarma.

The Peace, Democracy, and Governance Office manages a $11 million portfolio of complementary programs to address the core peacebuilding and democratic governance needs in Mali. This includes a focus on key U.S. Foreign Assistance priorities such as the Security Governance Initiative; Trans-Sahara Counterterrorism Partnership; Countering Violent Extremism; Women, Peace, and Security; and Trafficking in Persons to advance peace, democracy, and human rights in Mali.

Against incredible odds, Mali passed new legislation guaranteeing more seats for women at the political table. In November 2015, the Malian Parliament adopted a gender quota bill that will reserve onethird of government jobs for women, including in elected offices
