The third season builds upon earlier successes in promoting physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of Lao children.

Vientiane, 28 October 2022 – Lao children will soon enjoy the third season of “My House”, a popular educational and entertaining TV series supporting early childhood development. The series aims to promote the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of young Lao children.

The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICT), and UNICEF, alongside the European Union (EU), Global Partnership for Education (GPE), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), today officially launched the third season of TV series “My House”. More than 90 participants from different ministries, development partners and early childhood education practitioners attended the launch.

“While children are back in school after the COVID-19 pandemic, we all need to pull our full weight in the learning recovery for Lao children. It is our hope that My House will contribute to this and help students catch up on lost learning,” said H.E. Dr. Sourioudong Sundara, Vice Minister of Education and Sports

This new season of My House features 12 episodes with sign language interpretation. The series imparts basic knowledge to children and children with mild disabilities, from the Lao alphabet to colors, as well as helpful information for parents to provide nurturing care for their children. The series also integrates messages around COVID-19 prevention measures that are useful for both children and their families.

“Education is a key priority for the EU’s support to Lao PDR. For us, education is not only learning but also the holistic development of children, ensuring that they are healthy, loved and well-cared for. My House helps ensure young children are nurtured and are ready for school,” H.E. Ina Marčiulionytė, the EU Ambassador to the Lao PDR said via a video message.

“USAID is proud to support the ground-breaking My House TV series, and values our collaboration with the Government of Laos and our development partners. Investing in early childhood development programs - like My House - is a central part of the U.S.-Lao Comprehensive Partnership, and helps children learn better and overcome challenges, and provides them with the skills necessary for them to thrive,” said Dr. Kevin Smith, Program Office Director to USAID Laos. “I particularly like that My House incorporates sign language to help children with hearing impairments, making this more accessible and inclusive.”

Mr. Arturo Romboli, UNICEF Representative a.i., also emphasized that a key focus of My House 3 will be to provide information for parents.  “I encourage parents to watch the show with their young children and to continue playing an active role in your children’s learning and development,” he added.

In addition to the TV series, UNICEF and USAID will develop storybooks based on My House 3.

My House 3 will be broadcast through Lao National TV Channel 3, Lao Star channel, and the MoES ESTV (LaoSat Channel 8). All episodes of My House and its storybook adaptation are also available on the online MoES teaching and learning platform Khang Panya Lao (https://laos.learningpassport.unicef.org(link is external)).
