Kabar Ordo: Our Time for Dialogue

Duration: 2012 - 2014

Budget: $825 000

Implementing partner: Search for Common Ground

“Kabar Ordo: Our Time for Dialogue” is a two-year media and conflict transformation project funded by USAID. The project responds to a deficit of balanced information about conflict issues in the southern Kyrgyz Republic and the prevalence of rumors that exacerbate conflict.

Kabar Ordo strengthens mainstream media in Osh and Jalalabad regions through intensive training and coaching of young journalists. Media reports created by participating journalists are then used as catalysts for dialogue and early warning/early response in local communities, as well as higher-level conflict analysis and national workshops.

Project Activities:

  • Conduct training on Common Ground Journalism in 9 regional and national media outlets, as well as 18 months of intensive coaching for participating journalists to help them play a constructive role in addressing conflict issues.
  • Support the production of 450 media products by partner media outlets that focus on how real people are affected by conflicts and seek constructive suggestions for addressing them.
  • Facilitate dialogue around conflict issues raised by journalists in 72 Community Discussions throughout the Osh and Jalalabad regions.
  • Identify and disseminate community-driven solutions to six conflict issues through national television and radio talk-shows, national-level Conflict Analysis Workshops, and the publication of Conflict Analysis reports.

More information about the project, as well as a selection of media products and information about conflict issues can be found at www.kabar.youthofosh.kg.
