The incredible entrepreneurial spirit of Kosovo’s citizens was on display this week during a series of events celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2017.  Ambassador Delawie kicked off the festivities on November 13th, praising Kosovo’s budding entrepreneurs and small business owners “for their ingenuity and determination, for their ability to create jobs, and for their vision of what Kosovo can achieve in the future.”  Many of these emerging business leaders were on hand during the week, including several USAID beneficiaries that spoke about their experiences in founding and growing their companies.

Gresa Kuqi, a highly-respected manager at the Solid Shoes Company, also spoke at GEW about women in entrepreneurship.  Solid Shoes is one of the largest shoe-producers in the region – with over 300 mostly female employees – and is one of Kosovo’s biggest exporters.  In addition to her role at the company, Gresa represents Kosovo’s shoe manufacturers as a board member of the Kosovo Apparel Marketing Association.  She is a leader in her sector and a powerful role model for women entrepreneurs across Kosovo.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is annual celebration of the people and ideas that drive economic growth and expand human welfare.  In Kosovo the week is organized by Innovation Centre Kosovo, with support from a number of partner organizations, including USAID’s Empower Private Sector.
