For the first time ever, the Kosovo Justice Academy will offer commercial law training for lawyers. Kosovo Justice Activity in partnership with USAID’s Commercial Justice Activity were instrumental in launching the Commercial Law Training Curriculum.
To make this possible, legal professionals, including judges and professional associates, participated in a pilot Training of Trainers (TOT) program that developed nine (9) commercial law courses that includes commercial contracts, construction contracts, intellectual property rights, ICT, tax and customs, bankruptcy, and EU best practices.
Despite COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, which required most of the program to be conducted virtually, each participant successfully stayed on track and completed the courses. USAID continuously facilitates efforts to strengthen the capacity and readiness of judges and court staff to handle commercial disputes effectively. Planned commercial law training will strengthen the level of professionalism and responsiveness of the judiciary in commercial cases, a critical step for improving investor confidence in Kosovo’s rule of law environment. Moreover, the roster of trainers of the Kosovo Justice Academy will help carry their mission forward beyond the life of USAID’s engagement.
