Human Resources for Health

Speeches Shim

Kenya requires an adequate number of well-trained, well-distributed, and culturally sensitive health workers.  Currently, Kenya has 1.5 health workers per 1,000 Kenyans, against the World Health Organization recommendation of 2.3 health workers per 1,000 Kenyans.  The shortages are exacerbated by an inappropriate skill mix, absenteeism, low morale, a growing population, and inefficiencies in hiring, deployment, performance, and retention.  Human Resources for Health (HRH) Kenya is a program funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and U.S. population funds through USAID and implemented by IntraHealth International Inc.  The program’s purpose is to strengthen human resources for health management systems to achieve improved health outcomes.
