To address threats and strains on growth and stability, Jamaica must become a more cohesive and inclusive country. Social cohesion is a driving force for political change and a mechanism that consolidates democratic values into social institutions, thereby strengthening government, public, and private sectors while building confidence among citizenry in their country’s ability to thrive.

September 2013--- In 2007, Flanker, a squatter community within Jamaica’s St. James parish, was labeled the most violent place in the country and believed to be beyond redemption. Infested with guns and gunmen, no police dared enter.

September 2012 --After closing her shop and fleeing her community of Gravel Heights, Paulette Simpson was happy to return home and reopen her grocery shop, confident in the ability of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to keep her safe from gangs.

A mobile police station in the community of Tredegar Park, Spanish Town, now gives residents the confidence to walk freely, conduct business and live peacefully in an area once plagued by gangs.
