Meet Tinuke Adebanji, who was discouraged from pursuing a career in math and science despite being a high performer. Today, she’s the head of the Department for Statistics and Actuarial Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. She also teaches data management, statistical analysis, and leadership skills to help other women advance in their careers through USAID’s Accelerating Local Potential program.

Through strategic and early investments in Grillo, a Mexico-based private company, USAID supported a breakthrough earthquake early warning system with the potential to help millions. The low-cost, open source technology allows developers and citizen scientists to monitor earthquake activity and deliver alerts in moments of risk.
