PEPFAR Partner Profiles

USAID’s commitment to advancing localization supports an HIV response that is owned and led by partner governments, communities, local partners, and people impacted by HIV – a core principle of PEPFAR. Local partners are essential to maintain treatment continuity, reduce mortality, and improve quality of life – all vital to sustaining HIV impact and long-term sustainability of the response. Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) is a local non-governmental organization registered in Kenya in 1993. AMURT works in close collaboration with national and county governments in Kenya under the Ministries of Health, Ministry of Education, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and Ministry of Gender and Youth.

With support from USAID Nigeria, Heartland Alliance Focal Service Providers who are trained community care providers take lifesaving services to hard-to-reach creek communities. New communities continue to be identified and prioritized for services as we ensure everyone who needs services is reached, regardless of their location.

With exceptional technical and financial support from PEPFAR through USAID/Nigeria and building on the rich heritage of over 130 years of experience of Heartland Alliance for human needs and human rights, the organization has grown to become one of the largest PEPFAR-funded key populations (KP) programs globally, serving over 85,000 KPs living with HIV.

Peter Sands, CEO of the Global Fund, met with representatives of key populations in Jakarta, at Jaringan Indonesia Positif. They discussed everyday challenges fighting HIV and TB.

Over the past 20 years, m2m’s Mentor Mother Model has helped keep 1.17 million at-risk women and almost one million at-risk children alive – and has achieved virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among m2m’s enrolled clients. All while creating jobs for nearly 12,000 women.
